The industrial area of the former cement works in Alzano Lombardo (BG) which dates to the late 1800s, was designed by the Milanese architect Ernesto Pirovano and is located at the terminus of the light metropolitan Bergamo-Albino rail service, previously the Val Seriana trainline. Every detail of the complex was studied to give correct emphasis to the horizontal spaces (e.g. the small porches outside, the rows of coupled windows) and vertical lines (e.g. the chimneys become an architectural feature of the structure).
The structure of the former cement works has been converted into a multipurpose space that includes residences, offices, workshops, parking and more. The ground floor, which has two colonnaded reception rooms joined by communicating naves, is an exhibition space that hosts conferences, fashion shows, weddings, recreational activities and shows, with the aim of bringing art into everyday life. It hosts Tullio Leggeri’s prestigious art collection which includes work by artists such as Mario Airò, Maurizio Cattelan, Tony Cragg, Gino De Dominicis, Wim Delvoye, Stefano Arienti, John Armleder, Cai Guo-Qiang, Vanessa Beecroft, Alberto Garutti.
