The necropolis of Realmese stands on the slopes of Cozzo San Giuseppe, 3 km from the residential centre of Calascibetta (EN), an area with many caves of all sizes dug out of the rock. The geomorphic nature of the area provided humans with various opportunities for cave settlement from antiquity. The tombs belong to a period of time between the 9th and 7th century BCE. It is likely that there was a Sicel village nearby.
