Xirbi train station, previously known as Santa Caterina, is located in the countryside of Caltanissetta. Built in 1869, it was an important stop for the stretch of train line that crossed the mining area, at the time very active.
The structure has a simple central building in railway style with a projecting iron roof and iron columns. There are one storey side wings for essential services, an employee dormitory, a revolving platform, depot, water tower and other accessory buildings.
