The Biblioteca Liciniana, the municipal library of Termini Imerese, was established in the 19th century by the priest Giuseppe Ciprì and named "Liciniana" after his literary pseudonym, Mopsus Licinius. The library has been housed in the early 17th century former Monastery of St. Clare (which features a cloister with a three-sided portico) since 1952.
The library holds 102,000 volumes and an archive of documents dating to the 16th century, plus resources such as video cassettes, CD-ROMs, DVDs, drawings, engravings, historical photographs, geographical and topographical maps, and original plans.
Beside the library, nestled between Via Garibaldi and Via San Marco, are the remains of the Roman amphitheatre. Elliptical in shape and modest in size, the arena of the amphitheatre was built by lowering the ground some 3 metres below the level of the external portico. Some remains and two entrances in the northern sector, excavated in the early 20th century, are visible.
