The macello di Sant'Anna, in Piacenza, known today as the Urban Center, was built between May 1892 and August 1894 and was active until 1985.
The complex is bounded by a high brick wall facing East and South. The main entrances overlook via Scalabrini, with an elegant portal, and the stradone Farnese with a pierced metallic structure. A significant example of late 19th century industrial archaeology, it became a site protected by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Ambientali e Architettonici dell'Emilia-Romagna in 1989.
Today it houses the Polytechnic Faculty of Architecture, the Ordine degli architetti, paesaggisti, pianificatori e conservatori, the Municipality Ufficio di Piano, the Museum of Natural History, InfoAmbiente and the city’s historical archive.
