The vecchia Darsena is the heart of Savona harbour, combining both tradition and modernity. It is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city, dotted with the ruins of medieval workshops and buildings. The area was first developed when the city’s powerful families chose to live here, given its vicinity to the sea, building large scale residences with elegant portals and towers, in the early 1500s.
The vecchia Darsena suffered significant bombing damage during WWII, requiring requalification work that has provided its present-day appearance. One of the docks is still reserved for gozzi and fishing boats, all the others are used by sailing boats and yachts.
