The Ecomuseum of Alabaster in Volterra is housed in the medieval torre Minucci, which stands next door to the municipal art gallery, near piazza dei Priori.
The route uses meticulous first-hand testimony to illustrate the history of alabaster from the Etruscan age to the present day, focussing on technical and material aspects, styles and the economic and social consequences.
The artefacts on display include two Etruscan alabaster cinerary urns, two capitals that are unique example of medieval alabaster work, a collection of sculptures from the 1700 and 1800s, a selection of alabaster medals created by Albino Funaioli and several works by the local artist Raffaello Consortini.
