Papadopoli Giol Castle in San Polo di Piave (Treviso) is a palace of ancient origins built in the English NeoGothic style better known as Tudor.
In 1192 the Patriarch of Aquileia built a fort for defensive purposes. Many restorations followed, the best of which were executed by the Da Tolentino and Conti Papadopoli families: the latter completed a total rebuilding in 1850 and a later extension in 1888.
It is an imposing structure with tall crenelated towers, bow-windows, chimneys hidden by pinnacles and arched double Gothic windows, which gives the impression of standing in front of a real English castle.
It is surrounded by an ancient garden, an oasis of 12 hectares, whose original beauty has been almost entirely conserved through time. A path winds amidst ancient trees, woods and vast lawns featuring a picturesque lake, overlooked by the castle, with two islets that can be reached by boat or on foot.
The estate also comprises the oldest wine cellar in Italy (first documented in 1427) which produces prestigious wines using local grapes grown with biological farming methods.
