The Lotus park, situated in an area of 77,252 sqm, is a short walk from the historic centre of Lugo (Ravenna) and features a body of water, a small wood and a playground.
Since the uncultivated formerly private land became property of the Municipality of Lugo, it has spontaneously regenerated pioneer vegetation and, in about six years, has revitalized the area with the growth typical of deciduous river wood.
The wood has the characteristics of hygrophilous areas: an open, bright wooded area, with vigorous adult trees, shrubs of various sizes and seedlings of different ages. Vegetal reconstruction, usually very slow, is very quick here thanks to the nature of the substrate and the characteristics of a microclimate.
The nelumbo nucifera or lotus flower, from which the park takes its name, is a naturalized, monophyletic hydrophyte plant, planted for flower production. Symbol of "eternal life" in oriental countries, it is also sought after for medicinal uses.
The Lotus park is home to various species of birds including: goldfinch, river nightingale, coot, mallard, heron, moorhen, kingfisher and many others.
