Recently released in cinemas, The Honeymoon (see all the locations) is an Italian-British comedy directed by Dean Craig and starring Academy Award nominee Maria Bakalova, Asim Chaudhry, Pico Alexander and Lucas Bravo. It is a Notorious Pictures, Tempo Productions Limited, WME Independent production.
The film tells the story of Adam and Sarah, newlyweds about to set off for the most romantic of honeymoons in Venice. But when Adam’s needy best friend, Bav, decides to come with them, their loved-up trip becomes a complete disaster.
“We had the phenomenal luck to shoot a large part of the film in Venice. A visual spectacle from absolutely any point of view, Venice is the dream of every director” said Dean Craig.
The lagoon city, the main setting for the adventures of this strange trio, shows off its most iconic locations, like St. Mark’s Square, the Grand Canal, and the Bridge of Sighs, and also parts of campo San Giovanni e Paolo, the island of San Giorgio and campo San Vio. In addition to the exterior landscapes are the historical and artistic marvels of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco and the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello. The plot thickens further when Bav meets Giorgio, a charming Mafia boss (Lucas Bravo) and the story moves to the splendid Villa Cavalli di Teolo, on the Colli Euganei, which provided his residence.
“We made a film that was planned to be a fun, joyous experience, with romance, comedy and action as ingredients, all set in the midst of breath-taking landscapes, to create the most entertaining honeymoon possible – the director continued. – This is also a film about loyalty and the friendships that last a lifetime and I think that the emotional resonance of this theme and the relationships between the characters is clear from their portrayals.”
