RAI 2 has begun broadcast of the third season of Rocco Schiavone, the TV series about a deputy police commissioner from Rome stationed in Aosta and played by Marco Giallini. Produced by Rai Fiction with Cross Productions and its international distributor Beta Film, the series has sold around the world: season one aired on ARD - German public broadcaster (the first Italian series to do so since La Piovra) and registered 12% share, 3.1 million viewers. The transmission rights to the drama were also acquired by numerous broadcasters and VOD services: Starz in the United States (where it has already aired), AB/France Télévision in France, Canal + in Poland, ORF in Austria, Europa Europa Tv in America Latina, Teleseriya in Russia, Veronica TV in the Netherlands and Amazon Prime Video in China, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and former Yugoslavia.
The city of Aosta has benefitted from the international visibility that the detective series - based on the novels by Antonio Manzini - has brought, with many of the locations familiar to faithful fans now bona fide cinetourism destinations, including: the Roman Theatre, Cryptoporticus Forense, Arch of Augustus, historic cemetery of Sant’Orso, Piazza Chanoux (setting for Schiavone’s preferred bar, Caffè Nazionale), the 16th century Palazzo Ansermin (which provides the exteriors for Schiavone’s home), and the decommissioned Cogne ironworks in the south of the city (which houses the police station set).
