With 22 productions in 2019 – 17 feature-length films and 5 TV series – Naples consolidates its position as the ideal set for cinema and television. The list starts with season 2 of My Brilliant Friend, based on the second book in Elena Ferrante’s quadrology: Story of a new name, which is due for imminent broadcast on Rai Uno following the theatrical preview of the first two episodes and Bastardi di Pizzofalcone, a police series based on the novels by Maurizio De Giovanni.

The new year promises to match up: shooting continues on one of the most eagerly awaited productions, Season 3 of the Clemart production Bastardi di Pizzofalcone, with Alessandro Gassmann, Carolina Crescentini and Tosca D’Aquino, directed by Monica Vullo. The area of Pizzofalcone returns, to the delights of fans, with the addition of Chiaia the historical centre of Naples and other locations outside the city. A new entry is the series Mina Settembre with Serena Rossi as a social assistant working in the low-income “quartieri spagnoli” neighbourhood, and dealing with criminality. The drama, based on De Giovanni’s novel Dodici rose a Settembre is produced by Rai Fiction and International Italian Film with Tiziana Aristarco directing. The cast includes Giuseppe Zeno and Christiane Filangieri.

On the film front, two productions focussing on important figures in Neapolitan theatre history are in the offing: the first, Sergio Rubini's  Eduardo De Filippo, is produced by Pepito, while the second, Mario Martone’s Qui rido io, produced by Indigo, stars Toni Servillo as the famous actor and comedy writer Eduardo Scarpetta.
