Description

The call for proposals to support the development of cinematographic and audiovisual works is a measure promoted by the Lombardy Region in collaboration with the Lombardia Film Commission to reinforce the role of the cinematographic and audiovisual industry as a strategic factor in the region’s economic, cultural, and tourism development, promoting identity and social cohesion, generating internal economic benefits, stimulating employment, and boosting tourism.

Requirements

The call supports the development and pre-production of cinematographic and audiovisual works that have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • are set primarily in Lombardy;
  • are stories connected to the region and/or that enhance Lombardy's historical, cultural, artistic, and landscape heritage;
  • promote the widespread attractiveness of the region as a setting for audiovisual productions;
  • feature artistic, cultural, and professional collaborations with entities resident in Lombardy.

Projects must also meet the following requirements:

  • be original and unpublished works or a creative adaptation of pre-existing works, provided, in the latter case, that the author holds the relevant copyright;
  • be written in Italian or accompanied by an Italian translation;
  • have fictional or documentary narrative content that can be adapted and edited for the following types of audiovisual products: feature films; drama / animated series; documentaries; documentary series; including those produced using animation techniques;
  • be set in and/or closely linked to the Lombardy region, directly or indirectly depicting its historical, cultural, and natural attractions.

At the date of submission, the applicant must demonstrate majority ownership of the project rights with presentation of a signed and dated contract for the rights to the artistic material. The contract must be duly dated and signed by the author(s).

If the project is an adaptation of a pre-existing original work (novel, biography, etc.), the applicant must also demonstrate that they hold the majority adaptation rights to the work with a dated and signed option agreement or rights transfer agreement.

Payment schedule

The grant will be paid in a single payment within 60 days of approval of the final financial reporting by the Film Commission.

Notes

Eligible projects in all categories, including series, must be completed and have concluded reporting by December 31, 2026; penalty is revocation of the grant.

An extension of up to 3 months may be requested, with adequate justification and documentation, by certified email to f_lombardiafilmcom@legalmail.it.

The first day of filming (or start of animation) of the submitted project must take place within five months from the date of submission of the application.
