Apulia Film Fund

Description

Launched by the Apulia Region with technical assistance from the Apulia Film Commission, the Apulia Film Fund is a first-in call for applications that provides direct aid to support, with non-repayable grants, the following categories of audiovisual works, filmed entirely or partially in Apulia:

  • Category A: fictional feature films of a duration of at least 52 minutes mainly for theatrical release;
  • Category B: fiction works (stand-alone works or series of an overall duration of at least 90 minutes) mainly for television broadcasting (including SVOD);
  • Category C: creative documentaries of a duration of at least 52 minutes mainly for theatrical release; creative documentaries (stand-alone works or series) mainly not for theatrical release;
  • Category D: animated feature films of a duration of at least 52 minutes; animated series of an overall duration of at least 24 minutes;
  • Category E: fictional short films of a duration of fewer than 52 minutes; musical short films (music videos).

Applications for a contribution may be submitted only by registering at the Sistema Informativo on the website of the Fondazione Apulia Film Commission.

Maximum quota on cost

  • 35% of eligible cost;
  • 45%-50% of eligible cost for companies with a valid legality rating and in case of production carried out by companies with registered offices in Puglia for at least 3 years;
  • 45%-50% of eligible cost for cross-border productions funded by more than one Member State and involving producers from more than one Member State;
  • 50% of eligible cost for difficult films and co-productions involving countries on the list of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD;
  • 80% of eligible cost for difficult films and co-productions involving countries on the list of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD and in case of production carried out by companies with registered offices in Puglia for at least 3 years.

Requirements

The audiovisual works must possess the following requisites at the date of submission:

  • Category A, B & D:
    • Financial backing for a minimum of 50% of the “Final copy cost”;
    • a deal memo or a distribution contract with a distributor and/or a broadcaster and/or a SVOD or VOD platform; letters of interest will therefore not be considered eligible;
    • a production schedule that includes at least 25% of shoot days in Apulia.
  • Category C: financial backing for a minimum of 30% of the “Final copy cost”;
  • Category E: financial backing for a minimum of 20% of the “Final copy cost”.

Payment schedule

Payment may be made:

  • in one lump-sum instalment, upon presentation of spending reports;
  • in two instalments, with:
    • an advance of 40% of the contribution granted upon presentation of a bank guarantee to cover it;
    • the balance at the end of post-production, following presentation of the required documentation in support of the final accounting report.
  • in three instalments, with:
    • an advance of 40% of the contribution granted upon presentation of a bank guarantee to cover it;
    • a payment – equivalent to 30% of eligible costs outlined in the approved project – following presentation of the required expense report and an intermediate technical report;
    • the balance at the end of post-production, following presentation of the required documentation in support of the final accounting report.

Notes

The audiovisual work must be finished by:

  • 18 months from the date the contribution is officially granted for projects in categories A, B & C (feature-length films for theatrical release, television works, documentaries);
  • 12 months from the date the contribution is officially granted for projects in category E (short films);
  • 24 months from the date the contribution is officially granted for projects in category D (works of animation).

Exceptionally in cases with special motivation, the Fondazione Apulia Film Commission may grant extensions of no more than six months to finish the necessary activities, following receipt of a request at least six months before the end date.
