Where it was filmed 'Dormant Beauty'

The film was filmed almost entirely in Friuli Venezia Giulia, in Udine and the surrounding area, with the exception of some scenes that were filmed in Rome.
Cividale del Friuli, a municipality in the province of Udine with UNESCO World Heritage status, is the setting for the story of the ‘Divine Mother’, a woman who quit her job and abandoned the rest of her family to look after her comatose daughter.

The city that features most heavily in the film is Udine, where exterior shots were filmed in front of the ‘La Quiete’ Nursing Home, where Eluana Englaro passes away. Other locations in Udine that feature in the film include the station, the Cristallo Hotel, the police headquarters and Palazzo Morpurgo, where the scenes showing Uliano Beffardi in the Senate were filmed.

The motorway service station of the Friulian municipality of Gonars instead provides the backdrop for the initial encounter between Maria and Roberto.

Plot

In the last six days in the life of Eluana Englaro, her case and the issue of euthanasia are broached through a number of stories that weave together with the main story. A family living with the difficulties that come with having a daughter in a coma, a politician who must decide which side to take, and the fight of protesters who disagree with the suspension of treatment are just some of the guiding threads of the film.
