The 4-episode series Gerri, directed by Giuseppe Bonito, written by Sofia Assirelli and Donatella Diamanti, and produced by Cattleya – part of ITV Studios, in collaboration with Rai Fiction, is based on the novels by Giorgia Lepore.
Gerri, who gives the series its title, is the nickname of Gregorio Esposito (Giulio Beranek). He is 30 years old, with deep, melancholic eyes and the look of someone who has ended up in the wrong story. This could be because that is exactly how it is. A police inspector of Roma origin, he methodically studies the cases he investigates, takes complicated notes and then launches into rash decisions that are sometimes decisive, other times dangerous; he is always on the edge, balanced between present and past. In love with all women, he is very attractive to them, with the exception of deputy inspector Lea Coen (Valentina Romani) who seems to be the only one who wants nothing to do with him, sensing that he is a man who is deeply unresolved. She’s right, for behind the armour of a charming and resolute man, Gerri hides a deeply restless soul marked by a mysterious past.
Filming took place between March and June 2023 in Puglia.Locations included various towns north of Bari and in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani; Andria, near the ducal palace and in the underground cistern, and the historical centre (there are recognisable glimpses), where shop fronts and businesses were recreated; Trani, the harbour area; and Barletta, on the "Pietro Mennea" Lungomare di Ponente.
Additional locations featured: Molfetta, the Madonna dei Martiri Convent; Bisceglie, the historic centre and port, some interiors in private buildings; the area near the cave of San Michele; and part of the historic centre of Minervino Murge.
The cast includes Fabrizio Ferracane, Roberta Caronia, Irene Ferri, Lorenzo Adorni, Lorenzo Aloi, Cristina Pellegrino, Tony Laudadio, Cristina Cappelli, Carlotta Natoli, Massimo Wertmüller.
