Like season 1 (shot in summer 2023), season 2 of Vanina was shot primarily in Catania and features iconic locations around the city. From the historic centre, to the sea and mount Etna, several locations provide the perfect backdrop for the investigations of Deputy Police Commissioner Vanina Guarrasi (Giusy Buscemi): piazza Mazzini with its porticoes (which featured in the opening shots of the first season); piazza Vincenzo Bellini, home to Vanina Guarrasi’s crime solving team; the monumental cemetery with its noble chapels; piazza Dante and piazza Federico di Svevia; Ursino Castle; the churches of San Nicolò l'Arena, San Francesco Borgia, and San Giuliano; the oratory of San Filippo Neri; and the coastline of Plaia and Ognina, plus some key places during the celebrations of the feast of Sant'Agata, when a man is found dead in a pool of blood in a carriage.
All is dominated by the imposing and constant presence of Her Majesty Etna, the mountain that never sleeps: "It was thrilling to once again raise my eyes to the 'Muntagna', to Etna, which looms in every corner and never fades" said Davide Marengo, co-director with Riccardo Mosca. "And to rediscover that blue sea that laps the city of Catania without ever truly making it a seaside resort. It is the perfect place for Vanina, a character who seems driven by the same contradictions as the city: restless and vibrant, full of shadows and light. The perfect place for her new adventures".

Albeit haunted by the ghosts of her past, Deputy Police Commissioner of Catania, Vanina Guarrasi, is beginning a new chapter. Magistrate Paolo Malfitano has promised to leave the Palermo Anti-Mafia unit and move on with her, but only after he has arrested the last of her father's killers, Salvatore Fratta, who is still at large.
