Cortona, which is 30km from Arezzo, is the main centre for culture and tourism in Arezzo’s Chiana Valley today. The city, which is enclosed by city walls measuring approximately 2km long, with Etruscan and Roman ruins still visible today, sits on a rocky outcrop between the Chiana and Tiber Valleys. Historic buildings in the centre include Palazzo Comunale, the Museum of the Etruscan Academy, the Diocesan Museum and the Church of San Francesco.
