Trenches – Monfalcone

Description

The trenches dug into the bare rock of the Carso range or on the slopes of the Julian Prealps bear witness to the battles fought in the area between 1915-1917.
Today part of the WWI Theme Park (Parco tematico della grande guerra), well-conserved trenches can be found on the high plateaus behind Monfalcone (GO). The Park, which extends over about 4 km², features Austro-Hungarian defensive structures, artillery positions and shelters for the soldiers. Some of the most famous sites are the Joffre trench, the Virgin cave and the Cuzzi trench.
