Today Roccaguglielma is little more than a ruined castle where once the inhabited settlement of Esperia stood, a small centre today in the province of Frosinone. Located on a rocky spur of Monte Cecubo, it overlooks the Aurunci mountain range on the side of the Ciocaria.
Its origins date to the 11th century when it was built by the Norman knight Guglielmo of Glossavilla. Today, however, only the ruins of the main nucleus remain from what was once a much bigger structure in local limestone. The merlons and outstanding pointed arch portal make the area particularly evocative.
