The area between Asti and Moncalvo is the heart of the geographical Monferrato and also of the historic Marquis. These lands surrounding Asti are characterized by rolling hills where vineyards, which are the buffer zone of the UNESCO World Heritage site, are interspersed with other crops. The towns where the castles were destroyed by frequent wars between the Middle Ages and the 18th century are dominated by impressive parish churches that preserve valuable works of Guglielmo Caccia called Moncalvo, indefatigable artist of Piedmont’s Mannerism.
