At the foot of the Monti Dauni, less than 20km (12.5 miles) away from Lucera and Biccari, Pietramontecorvino extends over flat land and gentle slopes, overlooking an enchanting landscape. Nominated one of “Italy's most beautiful towns” it was awarded the prestigious Orange Flag by the Touring Club of Italy. The heart of the town is the Terra Vecchia, a maze of narrow alleyways and small squares overshadowed by the elegant architectural complex of Palazzo Ducale with its Norman-Angevin tower, and the 13th century Chiesa Matrice of Our Lady of the Assumption. The magnificent Gothic arch of Port’Alta is the only surviving remnant of the fortified walls that once enclosed the ancient hamlet. From here, Pietramontecorvino unwinds amidst houses emerging from rock, winding roads with steep stairways, and communicating arches join houses.
Outside the town, networks of bike and hiking trails traverse luxuriant, pristine forests, where wild boars roam free and streams furrow the land. Path lead up to the archaeological site of Sant'Onofrio and the water springs of Pila del Ladro and Pila Sant'Onofrio.
