Situated in the territory of Gagliano del Capo, the Ciolo is a small canyon whose tall cliffs hide a bay of cobalt sea. It is possible to admire its beauty from the coastal bridge 30m above it which offers visitors a breath-taking view and the bravest of divers a springboard.
The name comes from the Salento word ‘ciole’ which means a crow or magpie, birds which were once easily found in this area.
The Ciolo became part of the Otranto – Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase Coastal Park in October 2006.
