The beautiful Torre dell'Orso, in the territory of Melendugno, is a 900m-long beach, mostly occupied by lidos and beach resorts. It is framed by cliffs and a pine grove that edges the sand dunes which are crossed by a creek, the Brunese, that flows into a turquoise crystal-clear sea.
To the right, the two cliffs rising out of the blue waters close to the shore are known as Le Due Sorelle (The Two Sisters) and have become the postcard image of the Salento area. According to a folk legend, two sisters dived into the choppy waters and when they realized they would never be able to reach the shore, the gods turned them into two beautiful sea stacks.
There are numerous sea caves with traces of graffiti and prehistory along the cliffs.
