The Natural Monument Parco delle Forre in Corchiano is an area located along the river Fratta, a tributary of the river Tiber. The Forre are deep, arid gulleys caused by the erosion of the geological layers of volcanic origin. They have greatly influenced the evolution of local flora and fauna and conditioned the development of local communities over the centuries, as the numerous traces of different civilisations discovered in the area demonstrate.
The area, extending over 44 hectares, is extremely varied both environmentally, with its river, wooded and agricultural areas; and historically, with protohistoric and prehistoric caves, tombs and streets, Faliscan caves, a Roman bridge, a stretch of via Amerina, ancient docks, Faliscan hydraulic works and a hydroelectrical plant that worked until the early 1960s, an example of industrial archaeology.
The protected area was designated Natural Monument by the Lazio Region in 2008.
