The largest racecourse in Europe – with a 5km track – is located in the municipality of Merano, in Maia Bassa. The facility features important seasonal events such as the Haflinger horse race held on Easter Monday, and the Merano Grand Prix steeplechase, scheduled on the last Sunday in September.
Inaugurated in 1935, the first year of the Merano Grand Prix, the racecourse has become a meeting point for stables across Central Europe, who are not only able to compete in steeplechase against the strongest European teams but also find a specialist track for flat racing.
The racecourse’s geographical location at the centre of competing European nations and its technical characteristics, one of the most challenging in Europe and suitable for both flat and steeplechase racing, are appreciated unreservedly by industry experts.
