The Former Maternity Hospital of Asti was built in 1936 by Carlo Currado, and named "Home of the mother and child”. It was intended to provide hospitality for “maternity, paediatrics and foundlings”. Building work ended in 1940 when the structure was requisitioned by the army for use as a military hospital; only in 1946 was it returned to the people after careful restoration and repurposing.
It became an Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ward in the early 1970s, later a paediatric division with neonatal division and premature ward was added. The building, which also housed the medical guard, has been in disuse since 2009.
