Teatro Alfieri is Asti’s most prestigious theatre. Established in 1860 by private shareholders, it became property of the city in 1940 and is used for important events and theatre musical and opera performances.
It has three main parts: the stalls, proscenium boxes and dress boxes, with a larger central box. The Teatro Alfieri is in the historical part of the city very close to the town hall. Extensive restoration work began in 1979 and terminated in 2002 paying special attention to recovering the original project. While restoring the building’s historical aspect, the work also made it modern and functional.
