The Regional Park of Riviera di Ulisse extends along the southern coast of Lazio and includes the protected areas of the municipalities of Gaeta, Formia, Minturno, Itri and Sperlonga. In particular, the park includes: the protected area of the promontory of mount Orlando in Gaeta, the natural area of the Regional Park of Gianola e del monte di Scauri; and the promontory of the Imperial villa of Tiberius, torre Capovento and punta Cetarola in Sperlonga.
Bounded by the rocky morphology of the coastline, thick with Mediterranean undergrowth, the Park offers views that stretch from mount Circeo to the Pontine islands and over to mount Vesuvius. In Gaeta, the peregrine falcon nests in the tall cliffs rising sheer over the sea of Mount Orlando.
Points of interest in the area include: mount Spaccata and the “Grotta (cave) del Turco”, the mausoleum of Lucius Munatius Plancus, the fortifications in the area of Mount Orlando, the archaeological museum and Imperial villa of Tiberius in Sperlonga and the outline of the ancient via Flacca. In addition, the historical jewels of Gianola: the Roman cisterns, thermal bath complex, nymphaeum known as the temple of Janus, terraces overlooking the sea, fish tanks and the ruins of the 1st century BCE villa of the knight Mamurra.
