Colle di Tora is a small village which stretches out, like a peninsula, over a rocky spur that juts into lake Turano (province of Rieti). Roman in origin, it was known as Collepiccolo until the end of the 1800s. The construction of a hydroelectric dam in the 1930s, which created Lakes Turano and del Salto, influenced the present-day morphology of the village which is surrounded by the waters of the lake and woodland in a somewhat fairy-tale atmosphere.
The village of stone houses extends out around the main square where the Church of St. Lawrence with a simple Romanesque façade is located. The lake provides a splendid natural frame for the village, also offering beaches and the opportunity to water-ski or take a boat, canoe or pedalo trip.
