The Natural monument of Torrecchia Vecchia is located north of Cisterna di Latina and Cori and encompasses the ruins of a Medieval borgo surrounded by an English garden of about 2 hectares, immersed in a wooded area over 200 hectares wide.
The natural area extends about 450 hectares, comprising woodland, evergreen sclerophyll, plains of permanent natural pasture, watercourses notable for the wealth and unusually adaptive features of the resident flora and fauna, and habitats for numerous animal species. The particularly varied flora includes plants like the cork oak, the downy oak, the hazelnut, European hornbeam, Fraxinus ornus, field maple, holm oak and Mediterranean undergrowth. A number of monumental trees have been recorded in the estate of Torrecchia Vecchia, cork trees that are 4m in circumference and over 14m in height.
Part of the reclaimed Pontine Marshes, the area is of indisputable historical and ecological importance.
