Villa Contarini in Piazzola sul Brenta (Padua) is one of the most precious examples of Baroque art existing today, with its central building designed in 1546 by Andrea Palladio, later enlarged and remodelled. The paternity of the building is verified by the sketch by Palladio, preserved in volume XVII of the collection of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London.
Known as the villa of music, the central building features a very original auditorium which, with the music roomabove (also known as the "upside-down guitar room"), is a proper sonic theatre with unique acoustic characteristics.
The gallery of shells features reliefs and frames in shells outlining shapes in part inspired by the marine world (crabs, seahorses, anchors).
Behind the villa, a park of over 45 hectares has exotic plants, fishponds and a small lake with an islet.
The Villa has been owned by the Regione Veneto since 2005. It is used to host concerts and cultural events, conferences, weddings, meetings and public and private receptions.
