The Museum of the Chestnut and Borlengo (a type of flatbread) was inaugurated in 2000, in the ancient ospitale di San Giacomo di Zocca (Modena) to demonstrate the importance of the chestnut tree and its fruit to the life and work of the inhabitants of the mountain through the centuries. The three rooms display objects related to the chestnut, both as food and raw material, with information on the species, its distribution at the national, European and international levels, diseases and grafts. A reconstruction of a chestnut grove shows the typical plants, animals and traces. A display is dedicated to the chestnut tree during the second world war, with finds and documentation pertaining to the period. The museum continues outside the walls, extending along a level path to the heart of the chestnut groves on monte San Giacomo. Along the road, information signs illustrate the various phases of chestnut cultivation, describing the activities necessary for the correct maintenance of the grove and the different phases of its life cycle.
