Besate (Milan), a quiet agricultural village nestled in the Ticino park, is located between Milan, Pavia, and Novara, in the part of the Lombardy plain that extends west along the left bank of the Ticino River.
Findings and documents confirm that the area has been inhabited since Roman times. The historic centre features low buildings, some with courtyards. The layout of ancient Bexate recalls the layout of Roman camps, with the main road (decumana) cut perpendicularly by the "cardo" or hinge, a reference to the sun. At the intersection of the two roads is the square with the monument to the Fallen of the first world war.
