The Biblioteca comunale Laudense | Laudense Municipal Library is the oldest in Lodi, open to the public since 1792. It is located in the Palazzo di San Filippo in the city centre, near piazza della Vittoria and adjacent to the coeval Church of San Filippo Neri, with its matching Lombard Baroque style façade.
The library is housed in a large, vaulted room decorated with large 18th-century walnut cabinets. Today, it comprises a historical library, adult library (a public reading library) whose catalogue includes a significant 19th-century section, and children's library. The modern collection amounts to approximately 120,000 volumes, the historical collection to approximately 11,000 volumes, plus approximately 35 current periodicals, and 300 discontinued publications.
