Villa Mina – Casalmaggiore

Cappella Casalmaggiore CR

Description

17th-century Villa Rosetta Mina, in Casalmaggiore (Cremona), later enovated in the second half of the 18th century, is surrounded by English-style parkland with precious trees and a 3,000 m2 pond. The previous owner, Alessandro Dei Bei, bequeathed it to the WWF in order to protect the future of the garden.
The park's tree population includes nearly all the species native to the area, and features some examples that are centuries old. Elder, bamboo, hornbeam, alder, poplar, robinia pseudoacacia, lime, tree of heaven, southern celts, ginkgo biloba, horse chestnut, walnut, plane, magnolia, laurel, yew, oak, and ash (between 200 and 100 years old) date to the fairly ancient first planting. It is said that the English-style layout was inspired by a place in Yorkshire.
