Natisone Valley
Linked to Cividale, the ancient Forum Lulii, and the Isonzo Valley, the Natisone Valleys are situated in the easternmost part of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.?
Despite their historical ties to Italy, the Natisone Valleys have retained their original language and traditions, which are Slovenian and enrich these lands with unique legends, folk festivals and culinary specialities, such as the rituals and customs associated with Christmas, Carnival/Pust and the Kries/bonfire of St John.
Among the attractions worth visiting are the numerous small votive churches dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, scattered throughout the area and accessible via paths through meadows and woods that offer a veritable explosion of colours, especially in autumn. Of particular interest are the various natural caves, some of which remain unexplored, notably the San Giovanni d’Antro cave, which is of great natural, historical, religious and cultural interest.?
