Bassano has a soul of water and rock: the water of the Brenta river and the rock of mount Grappa, a symbolic location during WWI. A sort of medieval acropolis stands on its highest point with a castle which encloses a cathedral inside the first boundary wall.
The town centre features a system of connecting spaces: piazza Libertà with the loggia del Comune and large clock; piazzotto Monte Vecchio, a small scenic square with frescoed houses; piazza Garibaldi, in the shadow of the civic tower. The ponte Vecchio on the river has been rebuilt several times over the centuries while always preserving the wooden structure designed by Andrea Palladio in the 1500s.
