It’s time to take stock of the financial impact of audiovisual productions in Trentino: a few days ago the Provincial Council approved the 2018-2020 three-year project presented by Trentino Sviluppo for the Trentino Film Commission. This project provides for support for productions, training and continuing professional development, participation in national and international audiovisual markets, the organisation of events and creation of models for promoting and attracting businesses specialising in video games, and support for eco-friendly film productions via the T-Green Film protocol, for a total of €2,068,000 in resources earmarked for the Film Commission, of which €1,647,000 is for 2018 alone.

The move marks well-deserved acknowledgement of a growing sector which, in 2017, granted just under €1.1 million in funding for productions, resulting in spending in the region of €3.4 million, equal to 306% of the amount originally granted. Together with the economic impact, the number of production days spent in the region grew from 426 in 2015 to 570 in 2017, as did the number of local professionals employed, going from 2,803 in 2015 to 3,571 in 2017.

More specifically, in the year just gone, 17 projects were approved (compared to 14 in 2016) out of the 43 submitted: eight feature films, two documentaries, six local productions, and one animated film. They join the many film and television productions, many of which are international, that have turned to the Trentino Film Commission for organisational and logistic support.
