Representatives from the Regione Sardegna and the Sardegna Film Commission participated at the "Sguardi Sardi – Visioni Universali" panel held at the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Film Festival. The first official speech by newly appointed Director General, Andrea Rocco, provided an opportunity to outline the FC's activities.

The 2025 budget of €1,050,000 is divided into four calls for proposals which cover the entire film production chain: development, with the Location Scouting Fund; production, with the Hospitality Fund and Filming Cagliari; and promotion with a dedicated fund.

Location Scouting

The Location Scouting Fund has a budget of €100 k, intended to cover up to 90% of the costs for this activity. Its objectives are: to attract national and international audiovisual productions by promoting scouting in the region; to develop and support local productions; to generate economic impact on tourism and employment; to consolidate Sardinia's image as a "production-friendly" destination; and to promote sustainability practices.

Applications may be submitted during the two sessions which have startdates of: 10 October - 1 December.

Hospitality Fund

The Hospitality Fund, with €800 k in budget, shares the objectives of the Location Scouting Fund. It supports three types of projects:

  • Feature films, TV/web series, fictional and animated TV/web films, documentaries: maximum grant of €200 k;
  • TV formats: maximum grant of €50 k;
  • Short films: maximum grant of €20 k.

It provides reimbursement for eligible expenses incurred in the region from January 1 to December 31, 2025.

Filming Cagliari

The call for proposals (budget €50 k), due in late September/early October, reimburses eligible expenses incurred during filming in the municipality of Cagliari.

Feature films and television dramas can receive up to €50 k; documentaries and docu-fictions up to €40 k, provided that certified expenditure in Sardinia reaches a minimum of €15 k and that 100% of the grant is spent in the municipality of Cagliari.

Promotion Fund

The €100 k Promotion Fund provides non-repayable grants to cover part of the costs incurred in the promotion and distribution of audiovisual and cross-media works made in Sardinia (already completed or in an advanced stage of post-production).

It aims to strengthen the visibility of Sardinian works in national and international circuits; to facilitate market access and distribution of works related to Sardinia's identity and landscape; to promote innovation in audiovisual and cross-media languages and sustainability practices.

Support is divided into brackets: the maximum grants range from €3 - €10 k.

Applications must be submitted by 1 December.

In addition, the Regione Sardegna call for proposals for the production of feature films of significant regional interest (see the summary) has a deadline of 5 September.
