The Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment of the Region of Sicily, working with Sicilia Film Commission, will offer non-repayable grants for the production of feature-length films for theatrical or television release, TV series, short films and documentaries in the region.

The total budget amounts to €3.4 million and is divided into the following categories:

  • €2,500,000 - films for theatrical or television distribution and TV series;
  • €850,000 - documentaries and TV documentary series;
  • €50,000 - short films.

Differences from previous years include an increase to €250,000 in the maximum contribution for the production of films for theatrical or television distribution and TV series; while the thresholds for documentaries and short films remain respectively €40,000 and €15,000, for an overall amount that does not exceed 50% of the expenses incurred.

To be eligible for the grant, 150% of the amount received must be spent in the region.

The intent of the call is to incentivise original, high-quality audiovisual productions, promote the Region of Sicily for tourism, increase the spin-off value for the area’s economic framework and support professional opportunities for the young. Special attention will be paid to productions involving young professionals or employing individuals aged under 35 in the three key roles of producer, director or screenwriter.

In addition to works in the planning stage, submissions will be accepted for those productions which began shooting after 7 July 2020 and, due to the pandemic, have not yet been completed.
