Description

The Call for applications intends to support the competitive growth of Abruzzo's SMEs in the film, audiovisual, and related sectors, while strengthening the relationship between the cultural and landscape heritage of the region and cinematographic works. With the support of the "Abruzzo Film Commission" Foundation and in line with the provisions of Regional Law 20/2023, the Call specifically aims to promote:

  • the development of new audiovisual products and innovative content;
  • the introduction of innovative and digitalized production processes in the audiovisual sector;
  • the strengthening of production and organizational capacity of companies;
  • growth in the regional audiovisual ecosystem through the involvement of local professionals and businesses;
  • the dissemination of advanced technological and digital solutions in audiovisual production processes;
  • the uptake of eco-innovative and sustainable solutions in audiovisual production.

The financial resources activated by this Call are allocated as follows:

  • €3,500,000.00 for Feature Films, TV Films, and Series, of which 10% is primarily allocated to Animation projects;
  • €500,000.00 for Documentaries and Short Films, of which 10% is primarily allocated to Animation projects.

Requirements

Audiovisual projects must meet the following requirements at the application date:

Category A - Feature films with a minimum running time of 52 minutes, primarily intended for theatrical release; and Category B - works of fiction, television and web series with a minimum overall running time of 90 minutes, primarily intended for television broadcast, including SVOD:

  • minimum financial coverage of 40% of the cost of the sample copy;
  • deal memo or contract or preliminary distribution agreement with a broadcaster or audiovisual media service provider on other media of national and/or international importance. Letters of interest will not be eligible under any circumstances;
  • production plan that includes at least 30% of the filming days in Abruzzo.

Category C - creative documentaries with a minimum running time of 52 minutes, primarily intended for theatrical release; documentaries with a minimum running time of 40 minutes in one or more parts, not primarily intended for theatrical release or specifically intended for television broadcast, including SVOD platforms:

  • financial coverage of 30% of the cost of the sample copy;
  • production plan that includes at least 30% of the filming days in Abruzzo.

Category D - animated feature films with a minimum running time of 52 minutes; animated serial works with a minimum overall running time of 24 minutes:

  • financial coverage of at least 30% of the cost of the sample copy;
  • deal memo or contract or a preliminary distribution contract with a broadcaster or audiovisual media service provider on other media of national and/or international importance. Letters of interest will not be eligible under any circumstances;
  • production plan that includes the production in Abruzzo of either:
    • storyboards for at least 20% of the series' episodes or at least 20% of the feature-length film's running time (calculated in minutes);
    • animation for at least 20% of the series' episodes or at least 20% of the feature-length film's running time (calculated in minutes);
    • lighting and/or rendering and/or compositing and/or color correction for at least 20% of the series' episodes or at least 20% of the feature-length film's running time (calculated in minutes).

Category E - fictional short films with a running time of less than 52 minutes; musical short films (music videos); animated short films with a minimum running time of 5 minutes:

  • 20% financial coverage of the cost of the sample copy;
  • production plan that includes at least 30% of the filming days in Abruzzo;
  • the minimum filming period in Abruzzo must not be less than 20% of the total production.

Payment schedule

The grant will be paid as follows:

  1. advance payment equal to 40% of the grant, following a digitally signed request accompanied by the submission of a specific surety;
  2. final payment of the remaining 60% or the balance of the total grant amount, upon receipt of the required documentation.

Notes

Only audiovisual projects with a "start of work" after the date of submission of the grant application are eligible for the grant.

Production of the audiovisual work recipient of the grant must be completed within 18 months from the date of acceptance of the funding grant (24 months for animation). An extension of up to six months may be requested.
