Where it was filmed 'Malèna'

The film is set in the imaginary town of Castelcutò, which was reconstructed in Noto and Siracusa. Recognisable features of Castelcutò are the narrow streets of Ortigia in Siracusa and above all Piazza Duomo, the elongated shape of which offers the perfect setting for the strolls of our beautiful protagonist, between the lustful gazes of the local men and the scornful looks of the women which lead to her necessary transformation followed by the bitter finale. Ortigia’s history dates back a thousand years, which is clear to see from the markings on its roads and age-old monuments.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele III in Noto lends its Baroque features to the film on several occasions. Marina di Noto features with its long beach, as does the Scala dei Turchi, a white wall of rock that drops down to the sea along the coast between Realmonte and Porto Empedocle (AG), where young Renato takes refuge to write letters to his lover and meet friends.
