Sicilia Express, a 5-episode series for Netflix starring comedy duo Ficarra & Picone, tells the story of Salvo and Valentino, nurses who divide their time between their working lives in Milan and their families in Sicily. A few days before Christmas, they stumble upon a mysterious magical portal in the Avola tuna fishery: a garbage dumpster that transports them from Sicily to Milan and vice versa.
This unexpected discovery is destined to turn their lives upside down... not necessarily for the better.
The cast includes Katia Follesa, Barbara Tabita, Max Tortora, Sergio Vastano, Enrico Bertolino, Adelaide Massari, Angelo Tosto, and features Jerry Calà and Giorgio Tirabassi.
The thirteen-week shoot (April - July 2025) engaged a crew of 85.
Sicily, the directors’ home region (Sicilianness is their hallmark), is present in the series' title: the production's base was the Baroque city of Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage site, locations also included nearby Avola.
In addition to five weeks in Sicily, the production spent a week in Milan (in piazza Duomo, under the porticoes), and seven in Rome. Locations included the historic centre of Alatri (Frosinone), mostly piazza Santa Maria Maggiore.
Produced by Tramp Limited, the series was written by Ficarra & Picone, Fabrizio Cestaro, Nicola Guaglianone, Fabrizio Testini.
