Una fottuta bugia, a bitter comedy by Gianluca Ansanelli, was filmed in 5 weeks in early 2024, in Rome and Calabria.
It tells the story of Pietro (Emanuele Propizio), 27 years old, a former child actor who once appeared in adverts but now spends his life going to auditions where he is regularly rejected. He shares an apartment owned by the diocese with Nicolas (Giampaolo Morelli), a forty-year-old rowdy and carefree nurse, who is divorced with a wife and child to support. When they receive an eviction notice, Nicolas "solves" the problem by telling the parish priest that Pietro has cancer. Initially Pietro goes along with it helplessly but just as he decides to confess everything, he meets Claudia (Antonia Fotaras) who, despite her terminal diagnosis, exudes vitality from every pore.
Locations in Rome included: via Marrucini and the nearby Verano cemetery in the Tiburtino/San Lorenzo area, viale Adriatico and piazza Monte Baldo, via Varese, via Matera, via Emilio Longoni, via di Villa Pepoli.
Pietro and Claudia venture on a romantic and adventurous escape to Calabria, in search of a magician who has been retired for 20 years (Antonello Fassari). With him, they visit some iconic places and unusual corners in the region - the Norman Swabian castle of Vibo Valentia, the church of Piedigrotta of Pizzo Calabro, Tropea, Vibo Marina, Briatico, Stefanaconi, and Lamezia Terme, where locations included Teatro Umberto in piazzetta San Domenico, Palazzo Nicotera and the Benedictine Abbey. Two scenes filmed at the TV studios of the Calabrian network “LaC” in Vibo Valentia show Pietro moving the panel at an audition to pity by telling them he is ill and the moment he is chosen for a commercial.
