Grosso guaio all’Esquilino: La leggenda del Kung Fu, directed by YouNuts!, is a coming of age comedy about Davide(Riccardo Antonaci) a shy 13 year nerd who lives in the Esquilino neighbourhood of Rome with his mother Asia (Carolina Crescentini). Symbol of the neighbourhood is piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, known as Rome’s Chinatown for its large Chinese community and shops, where Asia works in a Chinese restaurant and Davide dodges through its porticoes with his friend Yang (Mario Luciani), as he hides from bully Nadir.
One of the most frequent settings is via Vittorino da Feltre with the majestic backdrop of the Colosseum, where Davide’s school is located. In one scene, Davide and Yang run across the pedestrian walkway in via degli Annibaldithat links via del Fagutale (on the Oppian Hill) and via Vittorino da Feltre.
To settle things with Nadir, Davide begins learning Kung Fu and he turns to Martino (Lillo), a broke B-Movie actor who pretends to be an expert connoisseur of the martial art to scrape a living. To help Davide, Martino turns to his teacher Nando (Giorgio Colangeli) who lives hermit-like near the tourist marina of Fiumicino. Davide begins his initiation into the art of Kung Fu, against the backdrop of the Roman coastline: this time for real.
