The four protagonists of the 8-episode comedy Maschi Veri are confident and convinced they have everything under control. However, reality is quite different: nowadays being a “real man” requires that you are, first and foremost, willing to question yourself.
Mattia (Maurizio Lastrico), Massimo (Matteo Martari), Riccardo (Francesco Montanari), and Luigi (Pietro Sermonti) are friends in their forties forced by a world increasingly focussed on gender and social equality to re-examine their assumptions and deal with the surprising consequences of self-reflection.
Solidly tied to the identity of alpha male for years, the four must now figure out where they fit in a new societal and romantic landscape – without losing sight of who they are.
The setting for the series is a very recognizable Rome, featuring some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Acqua Paola fountain – also known as the "Fontanone" of Gianicolo – where Mattia meets a Tinder date, and the Appian Way park (parco dell’Appia Antica), a frequent stop in his job as a tour guide.
Scenes were also shot at the Ondina Generali Sports Club, lungotevere delle Armi 44, while a recurring location across the series is the restaurant "Gregorio Venite in Pace", via della Cava Aurelia.
Part of the series was filmed in Lecce and on soundstages in Lamezia Terme.
Produced for Netflix, Maschi Veri is the Italian remake of the Spanish series Machos Alfa.
