Where it was filmed 'Quo vado?'

Conversano is the heart of Checco’s world. The Provincial Office of Hunting and Fishing where he works is in Piazza XX Settembre (the offices of the real local council) is situated opposite the home where he lives with his parents. In the background of a scene on the terrace where Checco chooses pasta shapes from a case offered by his adored mother, we can make out the town clock tower. The restaurant where Checco, to solve his problems, intends to ask Penelope to marry him is the Castle of Marchione, just outside Conversano. On his return from some time away, the bus leaves Checco outside the cylindrical tower of the Castle of Conversano. Another city location is Largo Cattedrale.

On arrival in Rome, Checco speaks to his girlfriend with the Fontanone dell’Acqua Paola in the background. Again on the Janiculum Hill (in the background the wall where the Constitution is inscribed and a magnificent view over the city), he meets his compatriot Senator Binetto who advises him on how to manage his work situation. Unwilling to give up his job for life, Checco is sent to Val di Susa (the Sacra di San Michele, an abbey perched on the top of Monte Pirchiriano can be glimpsed in one short scene), then to the province of Nuoro in Sardinia (for several seconds, the Santu Antine hill and the town of Genoni beneath appear, which are actually in the Sarcidano area in the province of Sud Sardegna) and then to Lampedusa (where there is a fleeting glimpse of the coast).

Checco becomes a forestry ranger in Castrovizzo in the Aspromonte region, although the location is actually Cervara di Roma. The Parco delle Star where Valeria treats animals is in Aprilia and Africa was created in the National Park of Circeo (LT).

Some parts of the film, however, were actually shot abroad: one of Checco’s many transfers take him to the North Pole, to the Arctic base Dirigibile Italia in Ny-Ålesund on the Svalbard Islands in Norway, while he learns how to be more civil in Bergen, capital of the Norwegian fjords.

Plot

Checco has a “job for life”, a workplace opposite the house where he lives with his parents and a long-term girlfriend he does not intend to marry. His life is perfect until a Public Administration reform abolishes provincial government offices and forces him to choose between resigning or being transferred far from home.
