Ludovica Rampoldi's Breve storia d’amore, presented at the 20th Rome Film Fest in the Grand Public section, sees Pilar Fogliati, Adriano Giannini, Valeria Golino, and Andrea Carpenzano caught in a four-sided romantic entanglement with interesting twists, in a Rome that simultaneously disperses and conserves secrets in its hidden recesses.
Lea, Rocco, Cecilia, and Andrea move through ordinary environments - a small guesthouse, their homes, offices, a typical bar, and an ever-changing Lungotevere - as if completely disoriented, perhaps in search of themselves, and trying to find meaning in a love relationship where it is difficult to find a place.
Lea (Pilar Fogliati), married to actor Andrea (Andrea Carpenzano), meets Rocco (Adriano Giannini), a fifty-year-old seismologist, in a random bar in a Rome she experiences somewhat haphazardly through Google Maps. They like each other, but it's Lea who insists on seeking him out, waiting for him outside his office in Prati. A two-star guesthouse is the setting for the first of their clandestine encounters. It could have been simply a typical betrayal, but Lea – on the cusp of disturbing and mysterious - seems to have a hidden agenda beyond the extramarital affair. She increasingly intrudes into Rocco's private life, even seeking counselling from his psychologist wife, Cecilia (Valeria Golino). Without revealing identities, Lea tells her about her marriage and her extramarital affairs. and sets off a spiral that will prove increasingly fatal for both couples.
