With La quattordicesima domenica del tempo ordinario, director Pupi Avati takes his birthplace, Bologna, back to the Seventies with the multi-decade story of Marzio, Samuele and Sandra (played respectively by Lodo Guenzi, Nick Russo and Camilla Ciraolo) that begins in their earliest youth when they all had dreams to follow. The two boys, best of friends, start a band "I Leggenda" and dream of success. Sandra, a true beauty, wants to become a model. Several years later, on the 14th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Marzio and Sandra marry as Samuele plays the organ. That “14thSunday” becomes the title of a song, the only one they record and the only one played by the local radio stations.
Locations included the historical centre of Bologna, in particular piazza Galvani outside caffè Zanarini, the Church of San Giuseppe Sposo and the Cinema Teatro Bellinzona.
They marry, then split up, only to come together again 35 years later, in the most mature period of their lives. They meet at a funeral which takes place in an atmospheric hill location, the Monastery of San Michele in Bosco. Older Sandra is played by Edwige Fenech who returns to the screen after a long absence in the first dramatic role of her career; Marzio is played by Gabriele Lavia.
